Organized by:
German Eco Housing Initiative
This year's German Pavilion at the Japan Home & Building Show features members of the "German Eco Housing Initiative". This initiative has been founded two years ago in order to deepen German-Japanese exchange and cooperation in the field of healthy and ecological building, including natural building materials, sealing systems, heating/cooling, roof greening etc.
Growing environmental pollution and energy consumption, lack of living space and unhealthy living conditions are problems which all highly developped societies have to cope with. Energy and ressource saving and healthy building got more and more important in the last years also in Japan as well as in Germany. Problems like ressource shortage, global warming, and allergic diseases caused by harmful emissions of building materials and interiors - the so called "sick building-syndrom" - gained more and more public and political attention.
Both countries should exchange their similar experiences and know-how to find solutions for better living in the future.
The "German Eco Housing Initiative", a group of German companies and research institutes is aiming at the promotion of German-Japanese exchange of science and industry in the sector of ecological and healthy building and urban development.
The initiative has already gained support from the German side (German Ministry of Economics, German Ministry of the Environment) and the Japanese side (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport).
The next milestone of the "German Eco Housing Activities is a Symposium on "Sustainable and Healthy Building and Housing" in Japan in February 2006.
